Speeches are here!!!!

Kia Ora Bloggers, today I will be sharing with you
what my class has been doing for writing...

SPEECHES!

Although a lot of people get nervous speaking in front of people (myself included),
you must admit, when you have a speech competition and you get through to the final, you have excitement. And excitement is exactly what I feel.

Turning back the clock a bit.Around 1 - 2 weeks ago, our class started a speech workbook on our chromebooks, during the time between writing our speech and competing we would be:
- Researching what speeches have in them
- Looking for quality speeches
- Listening to famous speeches
- doing activities to drill what aspects of a good speech are.

After we did this, we went on to write our speeches, this was actually a very quick process for me.
To begin i had around 1000 words which took me 4 minutes to read. At this point I had to assess my writing and I took out everything I needed. I did this a lot until I was down to just under 3 minutes. (Year 7/8 speeches had to be between 2:30 and 3:00, time penalty applies).

Last week, we presented our speeches in front of our year groups, we had the filmed, here is mine:

We got judged on a rubric and unfortunately I was 6 second over but.. I still got to the final.

I think I could have improved by relying on my cards less and looking up at people more.

Thank You for reading, I hope you enjoyed.

  1. Hi Julia,

What a great outline of the process you went through to write your speech. I particularly enjoyed reading about the internal process you went through. It was also great to read about how you felt excited and nervous.

I'm glad you have shared your video because others should be able to hear your speech and see how well you did. I'm sure even your Grandma in England would enjoy watching this.

    Thanks for posting,
    Mrs Spragg
