Critical Thinking....

Kia Ora Bloggers,
in today's post, I will be talking about reading. If you didn't already know, one of our reading groups has been basing their learning around 'Novel Study'

A novel study is where you read a book and then you answer comprehension questions and you might do an activity or two around that. The two books we have are "My sister lives on the mantelpiece" by Annabel Pitcher & "The boy in the Striped Pyjamas" by John Boyne. I have been reading the book by John Boyne. If you would like to see the things I have been doing and need to do, here is the link.

Over the last week, we have been finishing off everything as well as, answering and thinking about very critical questions. We had to get into groups of three, we each got given a pile of 'Critical Literacy Questions' and we had to choose the 4 questions that we thought were the most relevant to our book.

This took a little bit of time but it was very fun. I think that the questions my group chose were very on point. Afterwards, all of the groups got together and did a vote on which were the best. We had discussions about the different questions and they were very interesting.

Our 2nd session on this, is where we were given 3 questions to answer, and after we answered them, we had to share it creatively. So, I decided to ask somebody to do this with me and we just made a video of us answering the questions and having a conversation about it, here blog is here: Grace's blog

 Here is our video:

Thank You for watching and I hope you enjoyed as much as I did.

If there are any other ways you think I could have shown my critical literacy, please tell me.

See you next time and thank you again, for reading.

Holes: My Advert

Kia Ora Bloggers,
in today's post, I will be sharing some of my 'Holes' work.

'Holes' is our class shared story and it is where we do activities based off of the book.
This week we finished the book and we had something different to do than usual.

Normally, we have comprehension questions and some vocab work, but this week we had to finish any unfinished work and then do an activity where we made something advertising the movie to the book - 'Holes'.

It was hard to think what to do and how to represent it but I did finish it after the hard struggle of not knowing what to do...

So, I made a little animation/trailer to the movie on Slides and here it is:

I found it kind of easy because I have done some animation work before but it is kind of tricky. Also, I didn't do proper animations, I just used the "animate" tool.

I really enjoyed doing this and it was something new and different which is always an extra plus.
I think I will do more animations more often, but I will try to keep them simple, just like this one.

I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time!

Dinner Party!

Kia Ora Bloggers,
in today's post, it will be about my home learning.

If you didn't already know,  each week, for our home learning we have to do a certain amount of minutes/progressions on this website called Math-Whizz. We also have to do different blog activities and be careful, we have to do each activity to follow everything it says. Here is the link to our site, if you click 'Other Learning Areas' and click 'Home Learning' and there, you will have the blog activities we have.

This week, I am doing the activity 'Come dine with me'.
Here it is:

Come Dine With Me // Home Learning

So, the first thing I did was think about what celebrities I would choose and why. I chose people who aren't my favourite celebrities but people I think would do well at dinner. I couldn't think of many people so I asked my little brother because, in reality, he'd have to be there.  It was actually kind of hard to choose people because you have Actors, and Singers, you have people with huge businesses. So, the people I went with are:

Jennifer Lawrence
Tom Holland
Dwayne Johnson

(My brother chose my 2nd two choices)

Next, I wrote my letters to ask them and here they are in one slide:

I hope you enjoyed reading this because I did.

Who would you have invited?

See you next time!

Poetry - Free Verse

Kia Ora Bloggers,
today's post will be about the writing we have been doing in class - Poetry.

We have been doing a workbook over the past 2 (ish) weeks where we have studied different poet's poetry and learnt how to write some of our own. Each week we get around 40 minutes to write a poem, that means that last week we did one and we did one this week also!

Today, we had to do a 'Free Verse' poem. This is basically where you can do anything, it shouldn't all rhyme but there can be some rhymes, as well as rhythms etc....
It is different because other poems usually have rhythms and repetition, but this one is Free Verse as explained earlier.

So today, I wrote one. It was actually difficult because I was doing one of 'If I were an owl'. I started writing and it didn't go well, the same thing happened with my 2nd poem which was about summer. I was very frustrated and it was hard.

Eventually, I wrote one about time, and i write it really quickly, so I didn't get much time to edit it. So, I thought that for my blog post, I would share it with you, I did film it so I just put it in a slide with the poem, here it is:

I really enjoyed doing this even though finding the right topic for me was challenging. I am really happy with how my poem turned out and I am proud of myself for doing this.

I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time!

Here it is:

Invention or Discovery // Home Learning

After I checked this out, I went and spoke to my family and we brainstormed. Unfortunately, we didn't do it on paper so we only have the Biteable that I made.

So, I decided to do a Biteable and went from there, but before I show you the biteable.
Do you think that Maths is an Invention or Discovery?

It was actually fun doing this and it was really enjoyable.
I hope you enjoy my Biteable.

Here it is:

Thank you for watching & I hope you enjoyed this just as much as I did.
I will see you next time.

A trip in the tardis // Home Learning

So, to start with, I chose to do a Biteable, and I find Biteable kind of boring, so I tried making it look fun and I really enjoyed making it.

Do you like striped Pyjamas??

Kia ora koutou,

So, here is some of the work I have been doing, I have a couple of D.L.O's (digital learning object) here.

Here is my first one, I did a screencastify with a girl called Maddie:

Here is another one I did on my own:

Some of the things I did were hard to do, but it was actually really fun. I think that if someone else could've done my second DLO with me it would have been better, but it's okay.

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed.

What if my life was... a Movie??? (Home Learning)

Kia Ora Bloggers,
today is my home learning blog post.

My activity is called 'Movie Time' and this is what I have to do:

Movie Time// Home Learning
To start off with, I couldn't think of a movie idea, and all the movie ideas my family would come up with were silly, or I didn't think they were good. So, I went on the actors/actresses and I asked everyone who they would want playing them.

It took a while and it was kind of difficult waiting for their answers and some of them were very funny.
Here is my movie post showing who is starring and the name etc...

I have a slide and inside the slide is the poster.

Here it is:

I hope you enjoyed this just as much as I did. I have to admit, sometimes doing these are hard because your mind just goes blank, luckily I have a good mind!

I enjoyed doing this and it was kind of funny hearing my little brother's answers. Thank you for reading and I will see you next time!

Making decimals round???

Kia Ora Bloggers,
This week, my math group has been working on rounding decimals. We have a slide and we fill in our work, and we had to get it finished today! Luckily, I finished it... just in time.

Anyway, there has been some wins and no losses in learning how to do this. It was kind of confusing at the start trying to remember the tenths place and hundredths etc...

One of my activities was to make a DLO (Digital Learning Object) on how to round decimals to the nearest tenths and ones...

So here is my DLO:

Although I found it difficult at the start, I got through it and now I find it easy, so there are always wins in learning.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you learnt something.
Thank you again and I'll see you next time.

Author? Visiting us????

Kia Ora Bloggers,
today's post will be about an exciting visit we had from an author...

Karyn Wilson!

Karyn Wilson is a New Zealand author who has  (almost) published two books, today, she came and visited our school. We got to learn facts about her and her process and what went well and what didn't.

It was great having her, we got to  read one of her books that hasn't been released yet and we even got to see all of her drafts and got to hear how she did it. Also, all of her books are made in NZ isn't that great!

Leading up to her coming here, we were all looking forwards to her coming here and I was actually a tiny bit nervous because Jedi & I (we are heads of the student council) Presented her with a card and some flowers, but it was okay because she is really nice.
If you would like to see some more about her here is her website.

Here are some photos in a slide, I have also walked through what we were talking about:

I hope you enjoyed as much as I did. If you have any questions I'll answer them. Thank you for reading my blog post.
