The Moon - Home Learning post

If I were to go to the moon, the two book characters I would take would be Miss. Frizzle from "The Magic School Bus" because she would make it an adventure and I would also take Luke from star wars because if we got into any trouble, he could takeout his lightsaber.

We would probably do things like collecting moon dust for Miss. Frizzle and cutting through the ground with  lightsaber.

In the end, some crazy moon creature would try and attack us and suddenly (Cue the music) The Millenium Falcon comes to save us, and takes us back to our stories so we aren't missing.

Botanical Garden - Delivering Our Response Work

In my biteable, I explain what we were doing at the botanical gardens, and what it was like. Something I would like to add is that, everyone who put artwork down is amazing.

Our Response

Over the last week, after this tragedy, our class decided to shine some light onto this situation by creating something positive as our response. People have done different things, some have done "Words Art" other have made a video or created a picture. I decided to draw a picture, little did I know we would use it to create something else.

Last friday, we also had a colour day, if we were dressed in colourful clothing we would have to bring a 'Koha' (donation), to be positive and raise money for The Muslim Community. This year, I was apart of counting the money, and being a small school, we were surprised how much we raised. We had raised $454 dollars. That day, we also shared the positive things we made in response, whilst we had two minutes of silence. Here are some photos:

I was wearing colourful tie dye socks!

This was my original drawing, then I paired up with Jedi and Chloe and we made this
awesome thing:

We wrote love in different language sand we added things like 'Kia Kaha' or 'You are us' and even "You are you and shouldn't change'.

As you can see my drawing of hands holding around the world is on there.
It was really great getting to see everyone's artwork.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post.
Did you do anything in response to what happened?
If so, what did you do?

Learning Blog - Questions!

This blog is a home learning blog. I hope you enjoy!

"If you woke up in a black and white world, which colour would you miss most - WHY?"

I asked my older brother, first of all he said red and then he changed his answer to this -
"Actually, green because it's everywhere!.... And I respect nature!"

I agree with this statement because here in NZ everywhere we look there is green, and in a black and white world, having no green would be really crazy!

What colour what you miss most? please comment what colour you would miss.

Thank you for reading this - Julia

Home Learning - Questions

This week for 'Home Learning' I am doing answering a question. I know this sounds weird but the question is in need for a lot of thought. The question is: What are the three most important things in life? Why?

*for this I am going to exclude water and food etc....*

I think that having someone you can always turn to and put your trust with, a special person because if you don't have that you can get lonely. I think that is definitely one of three.

Number two would probably being happy, because when you aren't happy you can affect others emotions and how they act around you. Also, being unhappy can just make you not feel so good.

The third one I feel should be to do with physical activity and staying fit and healthy. I think this because without this your body will become less healthy and less likely to be able to fight off bugs.

My family had some different answers, for example my little brother said something along the lines of:

"I think that being able to make things that help others and ourselves is definitely something we should consider".

I thought his ideas were interesting because he was thinking of others and not just himself.
Apart from that, this blog is done! Thank you for reading.

Inquiry - Science.

Over the past week, our class has done multiple activities on some Human Body activities. First of all
we had to draw all the organs and veins, nerves and bones that we knew. Honestly, I think that I didn’t
write down some things that I actually did know about.
Today, we have done some fact finding and some questioning. Little did we know, this was becoming
our inquiry! The things that we were question was one out of three things.

  • Skeleton - Muscular System
  • Digestive System
  • Circulatory System

I decided to do the Circulatory System, although there are fewer things than others, I thought it would
be something interesting to learn about. So far we have just done questions for our Inquiry.

Here are our Wonderings and Facts:

This is pretty much all we have done for our inquiry so far, I will be sure to post about this some more.

Book Review - Home Learning

For this post, I will be doing a book review on John Grisham's 'Theodore Boone - The Scandal'.

This book is about a scandal with 5 teachers, the young 'lawyer' (as Theo likes to call himself) must stop something bad from happening. But will it work?

I really like this book and I think it would be great to read. As it is a young adult, I would suggest people around 11 + to be reading it. The story is great, it seems like it could be real and lots of things in the book is mysterious.

John Grisham also does other books, for older and for younger.

Swimming Sports

Last Friday, Yaldhurst held swimming sports for all of it's students. Most of the senior students did lengths and the Juniors did more display things. This year I entered in:

[ Key = length is (x1/2)
  •      Freestyle (x1)  - 1st
  • Breaststroke (x1) - 2nd (almost won!)
  • Freestyle (x2)  - 2nd (almost won!)
  • Breaststroke (x2) - 2nd
  • Backstroke (x2) - 2nd

Fortunately, there were only two year 8 girls in the races I entered. All of the races I came either first or second. Overall the races were awesome; being accompanied by cheering people on, and others cheering you on. The only downside was that it was freezing once we got out of the water - It was really windy. I really enjoyed that day, the adrenaline and the competition.

It was unlucky though, because we didn't get to doing house relays, so this friday we are. the only downside to that is, I am injured so I cannot compete in the race. Here are some photos and videos from the day:
p.s. I'm probably not in here because I couldn't find any.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.
