Home Learning - An Eclipse that Ends the World

Kia Ora Bloggers, This week for my home learning I am doing something on biteable based on this: 

"There is an eclipse, everyone is watching in awe and wonder, but the sun doesn't reappear. What would happen to the world?"

I had a conversation with my family & we all had different ideas.

Fibonacci Sequence

Kia Ora Bloggers! Today I'm going to be sharing some of my math work with you and teaching you the Fibonacci Sequence.

For math, normally we will get a slide that is based on the things we are learning and we will change every few weeks. These past two weeks has been number patterns. As well as a range of many other things, we learnt about the Fibonacci Sequence.

I find the Fibonacci sequence easy, as I do the working out in my head but when you get to higher numbers it takes longer.

The Fibonacci sequence is difficult to explain so here is a slide explaining what it is:

Time yourself for two minutes an see how many numbers of the fibonacci sequence you can get down.

Wig Wednesday

Kia Ora Bloggers! Today I am going to be talking about Wig Wednesday as my school took part in it.

What is Wig Wednesday? Wig Wednesday is an annual event in NZ which is a fundraiser that helps spread awareness for children with cancer and to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation.

Last year in 2018, schools, business etc... raised over 100,000 dollars for the foundation.

Did your school do this? Our school did and I wore a wig. (it was an Afro)

It was a koha donation which means that you can bring any amount of money to fund raise for this cause. Here is a photo of everyone:

As you can see most people decided to wear one and most people who didn't still bought a donation.

As a whole school, we raised $136.20 which is pretty good. Everyone bought funky wigs which is pretty cool.

Pretty Patterns

Kia Ora bloggers! In this post I will be sharing some of my math work. Over the next two weeks or so my math group is focusing on 'patterns', not shapes but in maths problems with repetition.

We were doing some repetition with questions e.g. (5 x 3 - 2) or (3 x 7 + 1). Each time you do it the first number would change to your answer but he rest of the question would change.

Here is a slide I put together based on the information I know to show you how to do it:

I think that I found this easy and it was fun experimenting to see how big your numbers could get, the biggest I got with only doing it 7 times was 4 million.

I think that what made it easier was knowing you were only going to multiply it by one number every time so you just had to know the times tables for that number instead of a bunch of different numbers.
